SO HOPE YOU ENJOYED OUR HERITAGE WEEKEND - THANKS MUST GO TO OUR ARCHITECTURE SPEAKERS, OUR ORGANIST AND ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HELPED TO MAKE IT A SUCCESS.

Please put the weekend of 23rd/24th September in your diaries. We will be celebrating the  Arts and Crafts heritage of our listed church and, in addition, looking back at the famous woodcarver of Woolmer Green, Harry MacDonald - the actual dogs in this picture will be on display!

On Saturday, 23rd, we are starting at 11am with a group chat about the woodcarver... have you any of his carvings or pictures that you could along? Please do! This will be followed by a illustrated talk about the Arts and Crafts movement by Francesca Weal but the tower was never built.  And then: an organ recital by Malcolm Scott who will be playing music from that same William Morris era.

The afternoon is similar but starting off with Prof Geraint John taking over from Francesca as our architectural specialist, then more memories of Harry MacDonald. Jackie Castle from the Red Lion is providing a refreshment tent and, for the children, there is a photo competition: "A picture of something you have seen in the church - send it to 'curate@welwyn.org.uk' - it will be printed out and put on show in the church on the Sunday"- and there will be a prize!

TheAnunal Parochial Church Meeting took place on 3rd May, see below for the financial repor5ts etc.

And we have been especially pleased to welcome the Romanian Orthodox Church for their Easter celebrations - a week later than ours.

Wishing you all a VERY HAPPY EASTER!

We have had such a lovely Eastertide at St Michael's:

Palm Sunday: we walked - processed around the church with our palms

Good Friday:  we followed the Stations of the Cross inside and outside the church and ended with a Hot Cross Bun

Easter Day: Lovely to see so many people at our 'All age Eucharist' amid the beautiful flowers and Easter Gardens.

 Harvest Festival 9th October

           Ukraine Appeal

Many people are wanting to know how they can help Ukranian Refugees arriving in this area. We have some people offering accommodation – this is wonderful, but everyone should understand that this is a significant undertaking and to be thought about carefully. Please consult the clergy if you are thinking about this.

  • The Diocese has set up a scheme to help with placement and we are registering our efforts with them. As the Bishop points out there are many forms of support which can be offered apart from accommodation and which will certainly be needed, if and when, refugees arrive here: ‘it takes a whole church to support a refugee.’

  • Please can you email (only) davidmunchin@outlook.com  and be specific about what support you might offer. In particular we are looking for the following:

  • Accommodation – regular lifts – meals – support for children (mainly through friendship with families with similar age children) – helping with English paperwork and internet access.

  • Moreover we would like to hear from anyone with appropriate language skills or counsellor training.

  • People may wish to give financially. The DEC, Red Cross and Christian Aid have all launched appeals.

  • In addition the Diocese has launched a fund to give grants to local supporters - Barclays Bank Account Name: The St Albans Diocesan Board of Finance Account Number: 20776041 Sort Code: 20-05-03 Reference Code: 2103161

  • Payment by BACS is most welcome but we also accept cheques. In either case please include the reference 2103161 as we will need this to identify it. Also consider filling in a Gift Aid declaration to make your donation go further.

  • We may also consider pooling our resources to rent a local property – if you are interested in that (which would entail a medium term financial commitment) please let us know.
