Our new Curate at St. Michael's

It's only a couple of weeks now, 3rd July, until we welcome our new Curate, Christie Gilfeather, to St. Michael's and to Woolmer Green together with  husband, Ryan. The ordination will be at the abbey on 2nd July and the morning service at St. Michael's the next day will be followed by a gathering next door. Of course you are welcome but please bring something to sit on and... something for us all to eat. We hope Christie and Ryan will be very happy in Woolmer Green.

Raise Money by shopping on line?

Jackie Davis has suggested we all use this site which gives a donation to the church when you shop on-line with certain retailers. It sounds a good idea and an easy way to raise that much needed cash:

Have you come across the

Welwyn with Woolmer Green Magazine?

The Welwyn Magazine has been in existence for at least 150 years; we have bound copies going back to 1871! With content balanced between church and non-church articles and events the Magazine is produced by a team of volunteers and published ten times a year. Cost is 60p per issue and it can be bought in St Mary's Church, St Michael's Church and from various shops in the villages.  Also available by subscription for delivery by another band of volunteers. If you would like to subscribe contact distribution@welwyn.org.uk.

Profits go towards the running of our two parish churches and profits from 2021 resulted in a donation of £9,000 split equally between St Mary's Welwyn and St Michael's Woolmer Green.

We welcome submission of articles for publication by email to magazine@welwyn.org.uk by 1st of month prior to publication. Enquiries about advertising to adverts@welwyn.org.uk.

Of course you could always look at the online version at https://www.welwyn.org.uk/magazine

The Romanian Orthodox Church

The Romanian Community in this part of Hertfordshire approached St Michael's here in Woolmer Green and asked if they could use our church for their services.

Naturally we agreed - what a nice thing to have happened! The Romanian Orthodox Church has some beautiful buildings; look at this one, it's the oldest Romanian stone church:

Platinum Jubilee
Yes, the weather wasn't too good;
we remember the weather in 1952
and in 2012 which was similar,
but Sue Keach thanks everyone
who turned out to help here
in Woolmer Green and raised
£294.96 for church funds.

Ukraine Appeal

Many people are wanting to know how they can help Ukranian Refugees arriving in this area. We have some people offering accommodation – this is wonderful, but everyone should understand that this is a significant undertaking and to be thought about carefully. Please consult the clergy if you are thinking about this.

  • The Diocese has set up a scheme to help with placement and we are registering our efforts with them. As the Bishop points out there are many forms of support which can be offered apart from accommodation and which will certainly be needed, if and when, refugees arrive here: ‘it takes a whole church to support a refugee.’

  • Please can you email (only) davidmunchin@outlook.com  and be specific about what support you might offer. In particular we are looking for the following:

  • Accommodation – regular lifts – meals – support for children (mainly through friendship with families with similar age children) – helping with English paperwork and internet access.

  • Moreover we would like to hear from anyone with appropriate language skills or counsellor training.

  • People may wish to give financially. The DEC, Red Cross and Christian Aid have all launched appeals.

  • In addition the Diocese has launched a fund to give grants to local supporters - Barclays Bank Account Name: The St Albans Diocesan Board of Finance Account Number: 20776041 Sort Code: 20-05-03 Reference Code: 2103161

  • Payment by BACS is most welcome but we also accept cheques. In either case please include the reference 2103161 as we will need this to identify it. Also consider filling in a Gift Aid declaration to make your donation go further.

  • We may also consider pooling our resources to rent a local property – if you are interested in that (which would entail a medium term financial commitment) please let us know.

PCC School Governor - St Michael Woolmer Green school are looking for a PCC school governor. This is a rewarding and involving role. Please contact the Rector if you are interested.

St Michael's School fete was a tremendous success  yesterday 17th June - many congratulations to the organisers for all their hard work... and for choosing such a wonderful hot sunny day to hold it!
